SEO communities and forums are where SEOs ask questions, share tests and argue about updates. This guide covers the active ones on Reddit, the classic forums, Slack and Facebook, plus the paid groups, with sizes and status checked on October 29, 2026.
SEO subreddits are the biggest free SEO communities and the fastest place to get a reply. Reddit’s numbers here come from GummySearch, a Reddit analytics tool, as of late October 2026, rounded to the nearest thousand.
r/SEO is the biggest SEO subreddit, and its description now lists AI SEO, GEO and LLM SEO ahead of technical and content SEO. It grew by about 91,000 members in the past year.
r/bigseo describes itself as the largest and most reputable SEO subreddit run by professional SEOs. It has about 143,000 members, a little over a quarter of r/SEO’s count, with its rules on its wiki.
r/TechSEO covers the technical side of SEO: indexing, crawling, HTML and tools. It grew 62% in the past year.
r/localseo is for local SEO news, help and case studies, with a lot of Google Business Profile questions. About 46,000 of its members joined in the past year, which makes it the fastest-growing of the big SEO subreddits.
r/GEO_optimization is about generative engine optimization: getting referenced by ChatGPT and other AI engines. Popular threads compare which sources ChatGPT, Perplexity and AI Overviews cite for the same questions.
r/aeo covers answer engine optimization for ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity. Nearly every member joined in the past year, and the most common request is for tools that track AI visibility.
SEO forums are the oldest SEO communities, and a few are still busy. Old forums count every account ever created, so their member totals run far ahead of how many people actually post.
The Google Search Central Help Community is Google’s own forum for Search Console, indexing and ranking problems, answered by volunteer Product Experts and other users. Several threads were updated on the day we checked, including one about non-brand impressions collapsing on October 16.
Black Hat World is a forum and marketplace for marketing methods, black hat and white hat, with an AI in digital marketing board of about 4,700 threads. Its live site sent us a bot check, so these numbers come from an October 11, 2026 copy in the Wayback Machine, when 25,638 people were online and 403 of them were logged in.
Warrior Forum is a digital marketing forum and marketplace with the most registered members of any community here. Its SEO board has gone quiet: the newest post on its first page was from July 15, 2026, while its AI board had posts from October 16.
Digital Point is a long-running webmaster forum covering SEO, Google, AdSense and a buy-and-sell marketplace. When we checked, 11,501 were online, but only 4 were logged-in members; the rest were 11,108 guests and 389 robots.
WebmasterWorld is a webmaster and SEO forum whose footer dates it to 1996. It now has a board for AI Overviews, GEO, LLM and AI SEO topics with 703 posts, and its Google Search and SEO board had a new message on the day we checked.
Local Search Forum, run by Sterling Sky, is for local SEO and Google Business Profile, with a job board and a members-only LocalU area. A trending thread when we checked asked ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini which SEO agency to hire in the 50 largest US cities.
SEO Slack communities are smaller than the subreddits and slower, and the talk tends to stay professional because people post under their real names.
The SEO Community is a free Slack group and events organization for people in search and AI optimization. It started in January 2021 as a weekly group chat, its stated values rule out selling links and guest posts, and it runs Tech SEO Connect on November 5 and 6, 2026, in Durham, North Carolina.
Online Geniuses bills itself as the largest Slack community for marketers and says its hiring channel reaches more than 32,000 people. From the outside it looks less busy than that: the Q&A sessions on its homepage are dated July to September 2025.
Women in Tech SEO is a free global community centering people of marginalized genders in SEO, marketing and tech. It started with a tweet in 2019 and now runs the WTSFest conferences and a mentorship program that has matched more than 1,400 people.
SEO Facebook groups still hold big audiences, but activity varies a lot from one group to the next.
SEO Signals Lab is a private Facebook group for SEO testing: case studies, split-test results and algorithm trends. It’s the busiest group here, with 107 posts in the month before we checked.
Ahrefs Insider is the private Facebook group Ahrefs runs for its subscribers, for SEO and Ahrefs questions. It had no posts in the month before we checked, even though ahrefs.com still links to it.
Sisters in SEO is a Facebook group for women, gender-diverse and gender-nonconforming people in SEO, from beginners to veterans. Job posts there must show the rate, the location and the company.
Paid SEO communities trade size for access: fewer members, more experienced ones, and usually live calls or events.
Traffic Think Tank is a private, paid Slack group for SEO, PPC and AI, now owned by Semrush and sold as a Search Engine Land community. Its #seo channel shows 312 members, and its public page doesn’t list a price.
Superpath is a paid Slack community for in-house, freelance and agency content marketers. Its monthly AI Show and Tell has members demo the AI content workflows they really use.
AI SEO Rainmakers is a paid Skool community about AI SEO, with weekly live Q&A calls, tests, tools and courses. Its first 100 places sold out in seven hours, by its own count.
SEO Discord servers are the newest kind of SEO community, and good ones are scarce: most servers listed under SEO in Discord directories sell links or guest posts.
We checked which SEO Discord servers have working invites and what each one is for. The AI SEO Discord is ours, built for questions about Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT and Perplexity.
Closed SEO forums still turn up in old answers and directories, so it helps to know which ones are gone.
Moz Q&A closed to new posts and replies on December 12, 2024, after more than 13 years; old threads are still readable. Moz said the conversation had moved to Twitter, Reddit, Bluesky and LinkedIn, and that moderation and spam had gotten harder.
SEO Refugee, an SEO blog with forums, was gone by July 2024: its domain showed a lottery spam page and later a for-sale page, though some community directories still list it as live.
How to choose an SEO community depends on the question in front of you.
These SEO communities FAQ answers cover the questions people ask most when looking for a place to talk SEO.
The best SEO forum in 2026 depends on the problem: for Google indexing issues it’s Google’s own Search Central Help Community, and for everything else most of the activity has moved to subreddits like r/SEO and r/bigseo and to private Slack and Facebook groups. Moz said much the same when it closed Moz Q&A in December 2024.
No, Moz Q&A is not open: Moz locked new posts and replies on December 12, 2024, and old threads are still readable.
You can ask SEO questions for free on r/SEO, r/bigseo and r/TechSEO, in Google’s Search Central Help Community, and in the AI SEO Discord’s question forum. Here’s how to ask a question that gets answered.
The biggest SEO community by registered accounts is Warrior Forum, with 2,051,796, ahead of Black Hat World and Digital Point, but those totals count every account ever made. The biggest by members is r/SEO, at about 519,000 on GummySearch in October 2026.
